Health Care Reform

President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (HR 3590) (2.2 MB)  into law on Mar. 23, 2010.  Part of the this new law set-up a  government health plan for people who are uninsurable due to a pre-exisiting condition(s) and are not eligible for health insurance being offered by insurance companies due to a pre-existing condition(s).   If you have been turned down for health insurance or had your health insurance premium rated-up due to a pre-existing condition(s),  then you may be eligible to enroll in the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan administered by Government Employees Health Association-GEHA.  Regardless of your current health you cannot be turned down by the PCIP due to medical or health reasons.   One caveat, you are required to be without any type of health insurance for a total of 6 month’s before you can enroll in the PCIP.  Details of the PCIP can be found at the links below.
